A haunted interface works because it asks us to perform ordinary trust under unusual pressure. We tap, accept, allow, and continue because that is what every useful tool has trained us to do.

The phone is intimate before it is frightening. It knows the weather, the calendar, the face of the person we miss, and the exact hour we stop pretending to sleep. A ritual app only has to lean on that intimacy.
