The Power of Rules in Quiet Horror

The scariest stories rarely need monsters; they need one instruction you know someone will break.

Rules create a contract between story and audience. Do not look back. Do not speak the name. Do not open the door after midnight. The instruction is simple enough to remember and tempting enough to violate.

A rule also gives fear a shape. Instead of vague dread, we receive a boundary. Everything inside the boundary becomes charged with expectation.

In a wish-recording ritual, rules slow the user down. They transform a button press into a decision and a decision into a memory.
